Daorum
Created by Simon Barker in 2005 after the extraordinary journey featured in the film, Daorum features Simon Barker with two of the main protagonists – Korean pansori singer Bae il Dong and percussionist Kim Dong Won – alongside trumpeter Phil Slater, guitarist Carl Dewhust, and pianist Matt McMahon.
Band of Five Names
Band of Five Names is pianist Matt McMahon, guitarist Carl Dewhurst, trumpeter Phil Slater, and drummer Simon Barker. The group continues to develop from it’s spacious acoustic jazz origins into an ensemble which employs electronics, ambient grooves and layered textures.
Showa 44
Featuring Carl Dewhurst and Simon Barker, Showa 44 utilise tuned metallic resonances, rhythmic densities and spontaneous invention via electric guitar and percussion to manifest compelling and evocative soundscapes. Showa 44 are increasingly becoming recognized as one of Australia’s foremost creative ensembles.
Matt McMahon Trio
Matt McMahon is a Sydney jazz pianist and an active collaborator with the likes of Vince Jones, Phil Slater and Dale Barlow. Ellipsis is his impressive debut album as leader of a trio with Jonathan Brown on bass and Simon Barker, drums.
Paul Grabowsky Quintet
Paul Grabowsky is an Australian pianist and composer, whose work is well-known both at home and overseas. He has covered territory from film and television to jazz and beyond.
